Local Area Information

Set within the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ironbridge is widely regarded as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. There are many walks in the beautiful Ironbridge gorge, and 11 museums which are part of the “valley of invention”. Other visitor attractions include Severn Valley Railway, RAF Cosford, Ironbridge Gorge Museum, The historic towns of Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth are all within easy driving distance, as are National Trust properties such as Powis Castle, Chirk Castle and Attingham Park. The town of Ludlow which hosts a wonderful food festival and is home to the stunning Ludlow Castle and is set just under an hours drive away.

The very poplar Ironbridge WW2 weekend in 2024 is on 24th to 26th May.

Walking

There are lots of local walks through the gorge many of which start near Millie's such as, Severn Gorge Countryside Trust WalksThe Silkin way is a 14 mile green corridor for walkers and cyclists from Bratton to Coalport. The Wrekin is a well-known local landmark. It is a hill that rises 400 metres above the local countryside with lovely views over the Shropshire plain. 

For those interested in longer walks there is the Telford T50 and the Shropshire Way 

Cycling

There many traffic free cycle routes in the area which can be downloaded from the Telford and Wrekin website. The Mercian way also passes through the area. Maps of the local sections can be downloaded.

Chic cafe restaurant a short walk from Millie’s. The coffee is good and the food is sumptuous. Next door to the Museum of Iron and Enginuity.

A small friendly pub. Also known as "The Mucky Duck" seating outside by the river. Hearty food, good parking.

The Woodbridge Inn, Coalport

Good food and varied menu. This is a popular pub situated on the banks of the river Severn a mile downstream from Ironbridge . Built around the same time as the bridge. They have around 80 parking spaces at the pub. Lovely to sit outside by the river.
